A very Happy New Year

Picture Marijke.

Nori our Cat.
Going niau-niau strong, now 15 years old.
Bring it on...Year of the Dog.

As usual, the New Year got an On the Run start
doing the 3 temples.

See here some pictures.

Atago Jinja.
See that big dog there on the right...?
Oops, i was a bit late (7 AM) or the other people were early this year.
Had to stand in line for 45 minutes.
But no problem, always somebody around to talk to.
hmmm, taking  those Japanese lessons might help indeed :-)

Sumiyoshi Jinja here in Meinohama.
Home of the 3 January Tamasesseri festival.

See the white sheet behind the red fence...

Coins and paper money casted there since midnight AM.
Donations for the jinja and....
for our own Good Luck of course.
Luff this.

And then jinji # 3
 Ododai Jinja.
Yearly tradition to meet-up with friend Kawaoka san.

Back at Meinohama Port.
Where our fishermen fly their boat flags proudly to celebrate the New Year.

And so does ALISHAN.

Salute.

An Alishan's First: helping out with an RV booking.

The Best of All Worlds:

RVing in Kyushu, Japan.
Nature, culture, relaxed, peaceful, safe, hotsprings, good food, small fishing villages, bigger cities, mysterious, language problems and for sure: meeting friendly people.

Family Lefevre from Nancy, France
rented one of our campers for 2 weeks in the middle of November 2017.

See here the link to their awesome adventure report.
It is written in french but Google Translate will do a good job.
Mind you...the superb pictures don't need to be translated.
They talk multi-lingual.

Thank you so much for sharing your adventure with us.

Outdoors in June 2017

Some Outdoor Things to do and to see in and around Fukuoka.

An almost exploding daikon radish.

Biwa fruit, aka loquat, ready to be picked.
One of the most deciduous fruits. For sale in the shops for plenty of yen but often found for free Outdoors.

The central part of Kyushu is for sure, volcanic active.
Here at the base of Mt Kuju, hot steam is escaping all over the place.
The locals are using it wisely for home heating % cooking.

A Yummy Tofu Only lunch
at one of the special restaurants we can find this area.
The tofu tastes so good due to the use of mountain water and hot-spring cooking.

This is d-i-y hot-spring cooking.
Using Mother's Earth Steam.
Fun, fun, fun and more fun to do.
And amazing tasty.
Bring your own drinkies & food, like veggies, shrimps, eggs, potatoes, whatever...
The fee? Just rent some SS baskets for a penny.

Master Chef Hashimoto san.

My Outdoor Buddies for today.

An other day, an other Outdoor.
Hiking one of the hills surrounding Fukuoka.
At the top, feel free to rake the place for everybody to enjoy.
And then it's time for the scenery.

That's Fukuoka down there.

Massive tori at Iimori jinja in Fukuoka.

 Life is Good.

And What's Up in Fukuoka?

Some photo-moments to share with you about
What's Up in Fukuoka.

Elementary School with a nice view.
Every Tuesday, you can find me on the 4th floor.
Helping the kids with their ABC learning. Good fun and a pleasure to be at this ! school as...
.....those mountains in the distance are my hiking grounds ;-)
Magic.

Full Moon as seen from the cockpit of Alishan.
Did you say Magic?
Too bad that night has an early go-to-sleep....
As next day, 3 AM, it is getting ready for my other J.O.B.

Right.
Off to an other other-J.O.B. day, on board of Sumie Maru.
Again Magic, the sunrise over Fukuoka.

.......

Exciting to be out at sea....

Then the following morning, 3 AM,  our catch from the previous day ends up on the big fish market in Fukuoka.

NO, this ain't our catch,  just showing off :-)

The Pink Paradise of Mt Kuju

In spring,
The Heart of Mt Kuju turns Pink.
This mountainous area is a National Park in the center of Kyushu.
Time to explore.

Early warning signs of Pink to come.

Trails at Kuju Nat Park are well marked.
Today's first goal is the top of Mt Taisen.

A view over my right shoulder.
That peak on the left is always smoking and rumbling.
Volcanic activity is paramount of this area.

Getting further to the top.

A magic view of Mt Yufu near Yufuin.

Pink is playing peak-a-boo everywhere.

That's what you can call a magic Rock Garden.

Woaoaaa, say No More.

 Next goal is Mt Hijidake.
Best Pink Peak of All.

Made it to the top of Pink Paradise.
Of course on such a magic day, i wasn't the only hiker.
But still, it felt Pink was there for me alone.

One more shot in Pink Paradise.
Couldn't stop taking pictures.

Heading back now to Marijke & Esther the Car
at Chojabaru car-park after a 6 hours hike in Pink Paradise.

Dessert?
A good soak in one of the many hot-springs.
More magic.

Salute.
