Even after my job on the Nordhavn 60 has finished,
i still make plenty of sea-miles.
Yeah.
How?
Well, one J.O.B. requires me, twice a month, to take the ferry from Fukuoka to Oronoshima.
A small island half-way between Hakata and Iki Island.
About 25 miles, port to port.
The ferry leaves right from the terminal conveniently next to our harbor.
A mere 15 second !! walk from Alishan.
The ferry ride it self, is just 1 hour.
The ferry arrives at the one and only harbor at Oro Island.
And the main activity for the island people is...tatataaa
Fishing!
Not many people live on the island.
Showing you here: Main Street.
And this is Main Road, leaving town....
Being such an isolated island,
the people have to be totally self supporting regarding vegetables etc.
Onions are a sure produce.
One of the 2 intersections.
Right will take you to the center of the island,
left will take you to......
......the Elementary and Junior High School.
Where i'm happily involved with the English ALT section.
The Elementary School has 10 and
JH has 3 students.
A homey & happy place indeed.
On the right, the ferry dock.
Only on Sat, Sun, Tue and Thursdays (my day)
there is a return service from Fukuoka < > Oronoshima.
What allows me a stay of 3 hours
Just enough for the lesson and a lunch together with the kids...
But it's usually a run back from the school to the harbor.
On my route to the port i take a short-cut
via the Other Street in town.....
No need for Google Maps ;-).

Up next, some pictures of my other J.O.B. Life.
It starts well before 5 AM.
Being youngest (!!) crew-member on board of Sumie Maru.
One of the fishing vessels of our harbor.

Depending on the weather, the sea conditions and the catch, we might be at sea till around 3 PM.
Then the following morning.....
.....3 AM !!
We have to bring the catch from the previous day to the fish-market in town.
At the market, fish is ready to be auctioned.
Now it's our turn....
And all is sold in under 1 minute.

In the hall next door,
tuna is being prepared for the customers.
Salute.
